Anyone using a Mustang Bass for live shows ?

I have the Fender JMJ and am really liking this bass..

How do you EQ ?

Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Do you have a particular Mustang bass in mind? Decent amount of tone/pickup difference in what is available even if you just limit it to those available new.

I have the Fender JMJ and will be doing a travel show and might take this bass .. have not gigged with it yet. Thanks

Isn't the goal of a Mustang not to worry about EQ. Just grip it and rip it.

yeah, EQ to the room as always, but that bass sits in a mix perfectly. No need to do anything special.

Nothing special about them, just EQ as you would anything else. A Mustang basically just sounds like a P-bass in the context of a mix IMO.

Not sure if you'll have an amp onstage or all in-ears/direct.

I use my Rumble 100 and always start with the settings flat. Then EQ for the room. What sounds good at home is different than at a gig. I have a modded CV Mustang but I do the same for all my basses.

Man that sounds good... with few exceptions, I always loved being able to just show up with my bass. Tried alot of different gear that way.
The Mustang will work fine.

As others have said, it's a great bass to just plug in and not worry much... It's easy to get it sounding great and fitting in most mixes.

Mustangs with the classic mustang pickup will sit/self-eq in a mix like a P-bass would, except with less growl and more fundamental. If you are playing bass also as a solo instrument or need to take up more frequency space, a bit of fuzz can be really helpful.

I plug a Nash Mustang with TI jazz flats into the same stuff as my other basses and it sounds like a mustang. But the room EQ is up to the sound guy!

I use mine aaaaallll the time. A JMJ and a 1973.

I EQ them basically the same as my other Fender basses: a little bit of extra low end and low mid. That's it.

I have a Mustang curiosity and thought this might be the place to ask… do the little split-coil pickups in a Mustang have one pole piece per string?

I play a single-coil P primarily and like its punchy attack - which is supposedly the result of one pole piece per string. Wondering if the Mustang pickup offers the same thing in a hum-canceling package (although the short vs. long scale does throw another variable into the mix…)

My 1972 Mustang arrived via UPS on Wednesday… that Friday I played a sold-out 800 person show with it, then the following week I went on a three day run of shows out of state.

i've never owned a bass i wouldn't play live. i have had 2 MiM mustangs, and i can't see any reason they wouldn't rock live.

that being said, i've seen people play really cheap basses live that sounded great.
