MXR 6 band EQ

Im contemplating an eq pedal. anyone know much about the MXR 6 or 10.band eq pedal?
is the boss GEB 7 in the same class as the mxr's?
Do these add noise to your signal?

Which eq would you suggest?

From what I remember about the 10 band EQ it was dead quiet but required its own special power supply. I'd try before you buy.

MXR 10 band EQ looks like its better as it has 4 more frequencies to work with

Correct, Its 18V not 9V. ands doesnt take batteries.

I liked the MXR M108 -great pedal, altho it needs to be powered by 18v the extra gain and headroom are awesome and the freq points are fairly useful.

IMO a parametric or even a semi-para would be a better choice than graphicfor bass.

I took my M108 back after a couple weeks and got a Tone Hammer instead. (I wanted more color as well)

If I ever need a another graphic eq the MXR is my first choice.

IIRC The Boss uses a FET cicuit which converts high impedance to low impedance signal whether the effect is engaged or not, and I think the MXR is true bypass.

had 'em both,and liked mxr 6 band better.first off,mxr 10 band was a bit noisy(slight humming,but i guess it's not the case with all o' them),and had a reasonable hiss in the upper register,whereas mxr 6 band-no hiss,smaller and has all the freq. you need.
plus,runs on 9v/batt. opposed to 10band and truly hard to find 18v(the adapter i got with it died within weeks... i'm thinking bad luck,but still...)
BUT right now i'm using custom parametric eq....hell...if i'm riding,then i'm riding with style !!

I have and recommend the M-108 10-band EQ model. It is 18v and noiseless. It has a separate gain and level so you can fiddle with the in and out signal even more. Yes, you need an 18v supply, or an 18v converter if you are using a daisy-chained 9v supply. I am using an 18v converter thingy from Godlyke for months now, no problems to report.

The EQ pedal is the unsexy, unsung hero of the effects board. Buy a good one and be done with it.

Mine is the first thing the bass sees. I use it to bump the mids a touch, kill the frequencies below my E string and feed the Growler a happy signal.

The Danelectro Fish'n'Chips is a fine and dandy 6-band EQ pedal with adjustable level, dead quiet, and is much cheaper than the Boss or MXR pedals if you're on a budget. Works on 9v battery or standard power adapter.

Very cool i hadnt heard of this one before but i did some research and the price is definetly right and all the reviews are.good. i will have to give this one a go

It comes with it's own 18v power supply. It actually will work with 9v, but the headroom is greatly reduced and some distortion is likely.

I love the 7 band MXR as opposed to the 10 band or the Boss Bass EQ.

I know it's weird, but it's simple and works really well straight into a power amp. It's clean, quiet and has 15 DB of boost or cut. (I always cut 400 hz. from the bass with it). I don't understand the mojo of it or why it just sounds better to me - but it does!
I used the original 7 band unit that was colored Blue and only ran on batteries for years in my setup - straight into a BIamp M2V crossover, Crown DC300 amp and into a Ev TL606 cab for bass and a jbl single ten for the highs. I played all kinds of shows with that rig and still own it - sortof-see below!
I recently built two matching cabs modeled on the Bagend 12"s because I like the form/size and just customized the port size a bit. One is loaded with a Celestion 12 -Pulse- the other an Eminence 12 -S2012 The pulse is great for bass - just hairy enough and warm for the lows, while the S2012 Eminence is excellent for the high end (and also sounds great for guitar). (Both Units can be used fullrange if needed.) The old M2V crossover failed, so I now have two of the new 7 band units (with power adapter ports!) one for bass and one for the highs and two Electro Harmonics LBP-1 Power Boosters.

I run the bass guitar into a boss tuner ( sometimes first into certain effects like a phaser) then out of the tuner with a "Y" cord out into each of the Eq's (and sometimes certain effects on the treble side-like reverb ). From there both go two one side of a BGW power amp. (My old Crown DC300 is in pieces on the shop floor.) It is very versatile, controllable and sounds great at low or high volume. I just don't like all-in-one amps.

Try that EQ. Buy it from Sweetwater and if you don't like it send it back. But try it straight into a power amp if you can. Anything else is a headache and unnecessarily complicated. You can get to playing instead of knob twisting much faster. And, if you copy my set-up, once you get the general eq's set up you can do all the adjustment you will ever need just by using the volume controls of the two preamps. I kid you not- it works - Great!
