MXR Bass Envelope Filter issue

Just picked up an MXR Bass Envelope Filter today and I plug it in but I can't get any of the effect. I tried using a fresh 9V battery and 3 different 9v power adaptors. Tried switching around cables and tried both my stingray and passive jazz. It only gives a slight effect when the sensitivity is cranked to max and even then it's only when I dig in as hard as I can. Not sounding or reacting anything like the videos and sound clips show. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try? Or should I just take it back regardless?

Thanks

So I guess those power adaptors weren't cutting it and same with that battery, popped in an energizer "industrial" battery and it seems to work. However the sensitivity still has to be pretty high, and does anyone else notice a huge low freq boost when the filter closes? I notice it if the decay is set anywhere lower than 12-1 o'clock.

It works ok with my basses, a buddy brought his passive bass over and I had to dime the sensitivity to get the filter to move.

And yes, as the filter closes there can be a lot of boost to bass frequencies. Try running a Swollen Pickle into it, let the filter close, and the sub is positively earth-shaking!

I have my sensitivity set to around 1 o'clock using my passive basses. Are your pickups set really low or something? Also the decay knob interacts with the sensitivity a bit, try setting that at 11 o'clock for starters. But if it's not playing ball with a Stingray, I'd think about returning it that does not sound right!
