MXR Bass Envelope Filter - Video from outer space...

Well sort of....

I posted a short video on YouTube of the decay knob and the super strange
frequency I'm picking up when engaging the pedal. I had to insert some humor in here.

For anyone else that has this pedal, do you hear what I hear?

Try taking the BOD out of your signal chain completely, not just bypassed. Mine caused all kinds of sounds from many different pedals when bypassed. Sold it for that reason. Not mentioned often but seems to be tolerated by its fans. I hated it.

I'll try that for sure... I'll solo the envelope pedal one more time because I think it's the Envelope filter pedal.
It would be a bummer to remove the BOD.

I get a strange whoosing type noise through mine when it's on my board, activated. Off my board, solo, no noise. I didn't notice it before when my Bass Whammy was first in my pedal chain, but that could be because I was too excited to have the Whammy to have noticed.

Jon223 may be onto something. Perhaps it's related to coming off the same power source.
I'm using a OneSpot, how about you?

I sent a note to MXR support to see what they thought since I recently had this pedal's board replaced
by them. It would be a disappointment if I needed to choose different pedals.

I used 9 volts and separate power supplies and etc, doesn't change the noise. I half remember reading that MXR even stated to one person that its from the "extra sensitive tracking" ability of the BOD. I barely understand how electronics work, but the noise you're getting is consistent with what I've experienced, albeit filtered differently.

Looks like I've got some pedal trading to start to consider.. "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water".....

I have a MXR BOD feeding in to a MXR BEF and I don't have any of these issues. I would try the BEF on it's own to see if it's related to the chain or the FX unit. I suspect that your BEF has a component which has gone faulty. It's not usual and certainly not right.

Quite interesting. I'll check that again.
I have yet to hear back from MXR support (I sent the video to them yesterday), as they replaced the board in Jan.

Oddly, I get a whole load of odd tracking noise with my MXR BOD at certain settings. A good dose of input mid eq seems to help the tracking massively and reduces the strange noise I'm hearing. It seems to get worse in the upper registers....and in my situation with my Music Man pickup....it sounds pretty rubbish when played over the 12th fret. But...lower than that around the 8th fret and it sounds great.

BTW, for MXR pedals...I use these interconnectors....they make the MXR pedals behave as a solid combined unit...keeps them all aligned and tidy and use less space between each pedal than any other I've tried...plus they are very cheap too:

Those might be ok for MXR boxes, but many pedals have their sides angled out slightly from top to bottom (the base is wider than the face of the pedal), which makes them incompatible. If you do a lot of board rearranging, you can also risk seriously screwing up the jacks on your pedals when you're taking them off the board. Not a good idea in the end.

Yep I have some EBS flats too....but for a string of MXR pedals, the rotosound straight through is best.

I've since moved on from the BEF in favor of a 3Leaf Proton, but suffice it to say, the BOD never caused any of the issues described here for me. I'm not saying they don't happen, but mine never did what's being described. The one I owned a few years earlier on a completely different board never made those noises either.

Both

The big difference there would be the buffer provided by an active circuit, or by an engaged pedal. Since the BOD and BEF weren't the first pedal in the chain on either board, the difference would be moot as everything was buffered by the time it hit them regardless.

Just did a quick isolation test and BEF is clean without the BOD. Something to do with the output of the BOD as TheEmptyCell said.

One other test I did was put the BEF first and the BOD as the 2nd pedal and it was good.

Probably not the optimal way to set up these two boxes in series.
