Hi All,
After spending a few weeks with my new (second hand) hartke lh500 and Hydrive 410 cab and really enjoying a couple of jam sessions we have had, my next mission is to find a good distortion pedal to add to my my signal chain of Warwick Streamer LX, MXR M76, delay and looper.
Now I know everyone is going to blurt out darkglass and I can see why. I am a huge fan of Karnivool and Jon Stockman and I see today that they have just released a smaller version of the Alpha Omega called the Alpha Omicron. This is an interesting proposition, but I can't help but feel that these pedals including the B7/3k, as good as they are, are just becoming too common.
I found a video of a guy using an MXR EVH 5150 ( )and I was super intrigued due to the price but also it seemed to sound genuinely good. I was thinking of using this along with a blend pedal to allow more flexibility for the tone.
I know nolly uses an Axe FX version of the 5150 and gets a good tone, but who knows what other trickery is going on in digital land.
Here in Australia the price of the standard AO is about 500 bucks and like I said, great gear, but everyone and their cousin has one and pretty pricey.
So I guess my question is, who has the MXR 5150, how is the bass response and also how does it sound to you?
