MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe

Just bought a new MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe and it doesn't sound like octaves, it just sounds like fuzz & distortion. Need help/advice on the growl and girth settings. Pedal sounds great with dry signal but whenever growl or girth is added it just sounds like distortion. Watched some YouTube videos for reviews/sound, they all sound great but mine sounds nothing like those. Are there signal pads? Sounds distorted on all my basses... User error maybe?? ;-)

Ricky, thanks for the help. I had to set bass to passive and use the high level input jack on the Blue Soul amp. Still not 100% happy, bass in passive mode doesn't have the high/low punch or scooped mid-range. Need to figure out how to use the pedal without make several changes. Will investigate how to turn down preamp signal which appears to be a little to hot for the MXR M288. Or is this the right approach?

I meant that you might be either overdriving the Blue Soul's input, or that your speakers might not be able to handle the lows. I seriously doubt the mid-switch has anything to do with what you're experiencing.

You aren't using the effects loop, are you? If so, stop now. Bass > pedals > amp should be your chain.
