MXR-M80 Help!!!

I am trying to use the MXR M-80 just to send a clean signal to the board but the soundman says he is getting very little signal and a lot of hiss. The pedal is working fine..its just the XLR out that does not seem to be putting out any juice. I am using an older Rickenbacker 4001 which has older pickups and lower output..could that be the problem??

Also does the effect need to be on for the DI to function?

Try to use another DI to see if it's MXR's problem. Mine works fine as a DI.

I've found that yes, having the box "on" helps greatly. Not the distortion, just the preamp/eq section. It shouldn't matter, but it does seem to.

+1 I've always got mine on for tone shaping and to send a clean signal to FOH.

No, the DI should work on or off. Playing larger stages where I use a good sound guy I often send a clean signal with the MXR off if he's happy with the clean tone.

Are they sending phantom power from the board?

Yeah I think it was a bad cable, it works fine at home. I will give it a try again..

I use mine every Sunday without an issue. Do the troubleshooting and I'll bet you find the issue.

Good point. I run mine with phantom power from the board so need to engage the ground lift for it to work.

So if I have a battery or an adapter but they are running phantom power then I still need to engage the phantom power button?
