MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter power issues

Hello, effects people. I bought the MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter pedal, to funk out, and it sounds great...with a battery. But I can't get it to work with my pedal board.

I have a Trutone CS12 1 Spot Pro Pedalboard Power Supply, which runs every other pedal that I put through it, no problem. Sansamps, Boss SY-1, Zoom B-3, Afterneath, Mantic, etc. I've tried both the 9V 100ma and 9v 250ma inputs, but when I activate the pedal, it puts no effect on the note at all, and just blobs out. I know it works, but just not with my board, which is where I need it to work.

Does anyone have any idea why?

I own three of the MXR envelope pedals, never have used a battery, have powered them with everything from a Voodoo Labs 2+ to an Amazon special mini-supply to a good old One-Spot daisy cable, and they've been trouble free. Could be a problem with the power jack on your particular example, in which case I'd be exchanging it.

Hmm. I hadn't thought of that. I'm pretty sure that I also tested it at my music theory teacher's studio and he powered it externally and it worked there too; but I'll double-check that.

I got this used a few months back, so exchanging it is off the table. It's just been one of those irritating things that I've pushed to the background, but I really want to get it solved. Thanks for the feedback.

@Neil Folkard I expect yours may have an issue with its power jack; I used one of those pedals for nearly 10 years, and powered it via a number of different power supplies. Never used a battery. Something is probably up with your specific pedal.

It sounds like your power supply is fine, assuming it's powering your other pedals. Can you try plugging the MXR into a slot on the supply which is currently feeding power to a pedal? Then, if it still doesn't work, you can conclude there's an issue with the power jack on the pedal, rather than the power supply. Which is perhaps not an ideal outcome, but at least no more guessing what's going on.

Are there any repair shops you can try taking it to? It should be a simple enough fix to swap one power jack for another.

Can you try plugging the MXR into a slot on the supply which is currently feeding power to a pedal?

This. You’ll know if the culprit is the pedal or the particular CS12 output you were trying to power it off. If you have a 9V pedal adapter (like 1Spot) laying around, give that a try too.

Did your CS12 come with a battery clip adaptor? Try it.

You probably have a bad solder joint at the power socket. Open it and see.
