My 1963 Jazz bass,back from the dead.

Hi TalkBass,
This is my first post. I just finished bringing my 63 Jazz bass back from the 80's, and I'm so happy with it I wanted to share. I bought the bass from my ex-brotherinlaw around 1985 for $300. It had a badass bridge,Active EMG's, a purple poly paint job,and no pickguard.
After 27 years of ownership I finally love this bass. It now has Antiquity II's,mint guard, and Lake Placid Blue nitro finish as original.I hope to start playing again and make this my #1 player.

Love the blue! Looks great.

Good pickup choice. I have a '73 and after the neck pickup blew I put active EMG's in. Very nice pickups. But last year after I had a new Warmoth neck installed I decided to get back to a more vintage sound, so I put Antiquity II's in as well. I really like them a lot.

Beautiful. It's an heirloom bass. Don't hesitate to slap an aged tortoise guard on that as well. Also, if you still have the original pickups, Lindy Fralin or Jim Rolph could rewind them right. Enjoy it...but don't ever sell it.

Actually, what they did is take out the cream colored DiMarzios that they put in in the 70's, and drop in EMG's in the 80s. Then, in the 90's they decided it was a mistake and that they WISHED they had the original pickups, but instead installed Lindy Fralins because they're just like 62's.

LOL! So true.... however, I'll say the EMG's sounded much better than the rusty, crusty old cream DiMarzio!
