Mine is a Gotoh, not a Hipshot, but I am familiar with Hipshot bridges. They are really nice and lightweight. Carvin uses them on all their basses. Now this is a standard Hipshot bridge we are talking about here, it doesn't change tuning like a Hipshot detuner. They do (or did) make a detuning bridge a-la Michael Manring's Zon fretless. I would have used a Hipshot on my Hoyt, but Allparts was out of stock at the time. The heavier Gotoh bridge is great and I'm glad we went that route.

Sorry, Ladies and Gents: I'm not currently taking on new work.

As you might have read from my other posts, I am a full time guitar/bass building/ woodworking teacher at a local high school and only take on a relatively few commissions per year: I give preference to folks who already own one of my basses (and for some strange reason most folks own 2-3 or more) .......

and for the reader who suggested that my body style would look good in bubinga, cocobolo, or other: you're right: I have built basses with bubinga (anyone in Hawaii want to comment? Cocobolo, lacewood,curly and quilted maple, spalted maple etc etc: each wood gives the bass it's own characteristic. personally... I love the feel of the claro walnut when oiled and polished to a high sheen, kind of like a well used gunstock. I also love the sound of the walnut when married to either mahogany or walnut core...... it has a great weight, nice fundamental punch, and enough sustain to get the job done........

but I have to say, Butch, I really liked the look of that lacquered bass I sent you as well!

you may want to check back with me in the fall, which is when I do take on a VERY few commissions each year......but this coming school year I am going to be focusing all of my energies on the 66! students who will be building guitars, acoustics, and basses in my class.

keep an eye out here, TBL and 'the pit'. every once in a while I build stuff 'just for fun' and then sell it off in those venues

gauges: 104,85,65,45,35,25 (took some doing to find strings: got them at [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] 'addario nickle rounds

Hipshots are fully adjustable , top loading: you can set it anywhere from about 5/8"spacing to a full 3/4: we went with around 11/16" spacing. they come in either brass or aluminum in brushed chrome, black or gold.
