My back hurts! Any ideas on power amps?

Oops, my bad folks! I apologize for the confusion. Ahhh, live & learn, eh! At least now I know what true bi-amping is. Thanks Blues Bass 2. So I'm hearing a lot of love towards QSC & Crown. I might end up trying those. Or just save a little for one of those spiffy Stewart Worlds.

Stewart World would be a lower weight amplifier that would work well for bass. I used to have one and never had a problem.

+1 I have a Stewart World 2.1 and with the pre that I've paired it with it KILLS. But not the back. I think it's less than 20lbs.
You have to get the right pre though as with any pre/power combo.

Just get a wheeled rack, and don't worry about the weight . . . and that's a lot cheaper than replacing an amp that is doing the job well to boot!

Get the World 2.1 if you get one, at least from what I've heard. No direct experience, but the cool little single-rack-space World 1.2 supposedly has had a lot of thermal problems unless you leave empty rack spaces around it.

Off-topic, your avatar looks really familiar ... maybe I saw you in Bass Northwest sometime when I lived in Seattle?? Or at a club or something. Who knows?

PLX amp will save you about 24lbs. Stewart will cost more and save you almost 30.... maybe more. it's been a while since i sized up the stewarts.

Try to find the lightest rack possible too. I realized how brutal my rack was when I lifted it too fast one time (it was completely empty). I was expecting it to be a feather, and then I ended up hurting myself (and I'm 21).

That depends on which PLX and which Stewart World. The non-bridging PLX 1804 is just 13 pounds, compared to the World 2.1 at 17 pounds. The bridging PLX amps, like the 1802, are heavier, at 21 pounds.

Huge +1! Racks are heavy ... shop around and consider what you need in terms of weight versus protection.

Thanks for the heads up on the 1.2. I just looked at your Myspace, I think I've seen you around a few times also. Nashville huh? I grew up in Memphis. Whole different breed out there, eh?
