hey guys, just wondering what you thought of this bass im planning to start making in a few weeks, not sure if this should be in the building section but this isnt about the process, just wanting some opinions. It isnt really that out there, i like to think of it as half tele-half J bass- half les paul. Whats your guys opinions? Does this look like another design i accidentally stole? cheers
reminds me of a godin ive seen here: http://www.talkbass.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/306/cat/13
half tele-half J bass- half les paul? there isnt 3 half's in a whole. i think you meen thirds? "a third tele-a third J bass- a third les paul" nice bass though
I was actually making reference to the man-bear-pig episode of south park with Al Gore. I can see the Godin comparison but i think it is different enough not to be a direct rip off. What do you guys think of the "spine" ending of the pick guard? you cant see it on the little picture but click on it for a link to the bigger one. And i should explain, the reason why the head is the same as a fender is because im recycling the neck/head from my old squire bass, and also i kinda designed this and all other guitars/basses on the principle of "different, but not extreme" just thought i would say that...
Tele. Why don't you go full-bore tele? That would look cool, instead of the half-assed version fender does.
Don't like it. Looks like a frankenbass. Why not design a bass that has more functionality, ie 2 pickups, better strap placement, more controls, ramp, contoured body. Neck will dive like crazy. Looks like good access to top frets though! Davo
Mainly because I really dont want to make a fender copy. This whole design came about because i saw a picture of a guitar someone hand made and i thought that would look cool in bass form but the way i remembered it was totally different to the actual design of the bass. I never intended it to look like a cross between all those basses i actually got the main shape from this: http://europa.spaceports.com/~fishbake/fpickup/fin.jpg and the Danelectro Dano Pro guitar. But i can also see relation with this design to some Tremonti guitars among others. I never intended it to be a cross between other basses, it just turned out that way. Im still not sure about the pickup, that was just so it didnt look weird. For this bass i want to have a go at winding my own pickup/s. And i want to keep it simple ie: pickup->volume->Jack. And at the moment i want to make it easier on myself with construction by just making it it pretty flat. The guitar im making is going to have a lot more curves to it and i just didnt want a look a like to my guitar, trying to expand the shapes of basses i own. I want a fair bit of crunch with this bass, anyone have suggestions of what kind of pickups i should make? single, split humbucker, humbucker?
