My Bass Strings Die Too Quickly

DR strings makes some coated strings that I've recently bought a few packs of for various basses and guitars to try out. They are more expensive than the non-coated, but not as expensive as elixers.... So far, I like em. They sound good, feel good, and cut down on fret chatter when I'm sliding and stuff. Haven't had them long enough to speak to how long the "last" though yet.

for my 6 string I got a set of the "black beauty" strings, and for my viola I got a set of the white neons (no picture of that handy)...

First of all XLR8 isn't all that great. Bang for the buck, it's horrible. won't last you more than a week. Combined with Dr Duck, it becomes great. You need them both. Dr Duck is the cheapest of the cheapest south of mineral oil.

Second, Elixirs do not sound that bright. In fact they kinda sound dull. Not dead but mediocre and that dull sound will last you eons. Just don't cook them. I did and you can't get the water out of the coating and it will start to form a little bit of rust.

I'll be honest. If you really want to sound bright ALL the time, you need to invest in some other gear. My MTD AG5 sounds so bright, no one will be able to hear anything but the bass with the treble all the way up.

Strings are a temporary method. If you want that sting, you might need to get a new bass, doesn't have to be a modern sounding expensive bass but it's worth looking into it.

How do you combine them? Where can i find them? I found the XLR8 at a close music shop, but not sure how to find the Dr. Duck anywhere close to me aswell

Dr Duck is just glorified mineral oil. It comes in a bottle. Once you the XLR8 goes dry, which it will in a few weeks, then just drip, drizzle that Duck stuff onto the pad. Just don't drown the pad in it.

A LITTLE. and I mean a little goes a long way. By this I mean swirl it once around the pad and you're ready to go.

I just looked it up and the official name is Dr Duck's that is an apostrophe S. The stuff really works on every part of your guitar from the bridge to the body. One bottle will last you at least 3, more like 5 years.

Cleartone, I've been using them for 4 years and I love them. I play 1 to 3 hours a day on average and they just continue to sound great on my opinion.
