The first bar that I played in was in 1976. Believe it or not... it was called the Blue Moon Saloon.

Are you older than that?

As for Peaveys... this was what I had a few years back... there are a couple more now. I stopped giving the foundations to kids.

I played out my first time in 1976. I was in high school then.

I was just starting out in 2006. I got my first real bass the year before, a Yamaha TRB 5II.

That was a sweet first bass!

Maybe you're my long lost bassist brother.. My first gig, I was in 9th grade, auditioned that afternoon... played that night. They were a bunch of old dudes... I think they were 25.

I got back into a first year foundation after trading a few off and realizing how great they were.

I do miss my peacock blue USA J/MM millennium...astonishingly great bass.

That's a strong lineup - dream basses for sure!

IIRC, my 2006 lineup was a first-year (Korea) sunburst Skyline 55-01 and that was it. That's where my TB user name came from.

I miss the Peaveys most. The SR5HH was a great bass but weighed 12lbs. The J/MM Millennium five was a fabulous bass that is very hard to come by these days.

I recently picked up a Millennium five from another TB'er and I honestly didn't expect to bond with it as much as I have. I haven't been able to put it down.

They are great basses. Back when they were common, I was obsessed with Laklands. I was suffering from the grass is greener syndrome.

In 2006 was my third year as a high school band director and high school math teacher. The following year I changed careers. It was the best decision ever. I feel old.

In 2006, I had 2 Kramers (lumies) - one fretted, one fretless. Both were under the bed - that whole decade, I didn't play music, as I had wrist issues. I was convinced I was done with playing music (I was doing FOH a lot, though). Turns out I was wrong - I'm now the best I've ever been as a musician and bass player. I've played far more gigs in my last decade than I did in my first 20 year career as a musician, I'm playing bigger, and better gigs, and the music is also much better.

In 2006, I had 2 Kramers (lumies) - one fretted, one fretless. Both were under the bed - that whole decade, I didn't play music, as I had wrist issues. I was convinced I was done with playing music (I was doing FOH a lot, though). Turns out I was wrong - I'm now the best I've ever been as a musician and bass player. I've played far more gigs in my last decade than I did in my first 20 year career as a musician, I'm playing bigger, and better gigs, and the music is also much better.

That’s a nice trio.

Thinking back to 2006 is interesting for me. I had a Fender P, J, Stingray 4, and I wasn’t too far out from getting my first L2000.

Today I have a different Fender P, Sterling 4 HH, a Stingray 5, and L2500. Not too far off from where I was 16 years ago and I went through dozens of basses to get where I am.

Meh. Im looking forward at this point and bass gas has subsided almost entirely.

Back then I was 21 and my axe was one of these American bad boys. I wanted one of those boutique basses with the natural finish so I stripped it only to find it was beech! Being young & dumb I decided to burn the top to give it a faux spalted maple look. Unfortunately (thankfully) I don’t have pics of that job.

I have a friend that has a very well paying job. He has bought and sold 100's of basses. At one time he had 14 Alembics. He constantly bought and sold stuff in the Seventies the Eighties and the Nineties he slowed down after 2000 but was still buying and selling. Back 30 years ago when I did not have much in disposable income he asked me" If you could have any Bass you want what would it be" I said a Peavey Dynabass. They were a great Bass for the money. I know it didn't have the cool factor with a high price tag but for the money it was a great value.
