My belt killed my ric :( Help needed!

:rollno: errgh! Lastnight i played a gig and i decided to wear the new studded belt my girlfriend bought me 1. to make her happy and 2. well... its a nice belt :smug: Soo i tucked my shirt over and under the front of my belt like i usually do but this time it didnt work. when we were done with the gig i got home and took my bass out and i saw all the scratches in my new rics finish.... :crying: i dont know if i should try to fix it or just get over it and understand that its an axe and its used to rock not to be put in a case forever.... but im totally bummed. im startin to think my girlfriend bought me the belt on purpose to destroy my bass (the thing that she is competing in my attention and affection for) ;) uhhh! women!

But seriously if anyone knows anything i can do to make it look better thatd be awesome. im not asking for a miracle and to look brand new again but to just lessen the damage a bit. i know a rics finish is a bit different than normal guitars so im not too familiar with it so im asking for help from you guys and its very much appreciated!

Funny how just about every electric bass and guitar under the sun have pickguards, but nothing to protect the back. What, it'd cost about $10 to put a piece of pickguard material on the back? Seems like a simple solution to one of the most common sorts of damage...

Well... to avoid this problem, next time, you could either adjust your strap to "geek level" and play your bass waist high, or you can adjust it almost down to your knees so you can look badass but risk the occasional carpal tunnels.

I know how you feel. The first few times I hit my bass against a blunt object by accident, I almost nearly cried. But you know, but these little mishaps makes your bass yours, so you're going to have to just live with it.

Suckage on the bass. As I see it, you've got a few options...

Leave it as-is and make up a cool story about defending yourself from a mob of rabid fans with your trusty Ric, which is where the scuffs came from (by creasing some skulls).

Spend some cash and have it repaired professionally.

Repair it yourself, and potentially not like the end results (unless you're an amazing sander/painter. I suck at it.)

Additionally, you have a few options for the belt dilemma.

Buy protective material for the back of the bass.

Never tuck your shirt in again.

Stop wearing the spikey belts when playing bass, and wear it on dates and the like instead to keep the gf happy.

Get pants that actually fit and never wear belts again. :hiding:

Are you a player, collector, or both.

As a player, who cares about buckle rash on the back of your bass? That happens when you play it.

As a collector, you should have left it to rot on the wall and look pretty.

Other people neglecting my instruments is a different story. If I mark it up, oh well.

Yeah, relic your bass and then you can act like you play it a lot or at least disrespect and abuse it.

Leaving your shirt tucked out doesnt solve the problem.
I found that it just eventually puts holes in your shirt and then goes on scratching the back of your bass.

As for fixing up the scratches, if theyre not too deep you could try some car wax? I recently scratched up the front of my jazz bass when i didnt realise my bracelet was wrecking up the outer coat. My dad suggested some car wax and wiped it down. Now the scratches are invisible, i cant even see where they were.

Of course, it depends on how bad you did it.

I never tuck my shirt in. My shirts don't have holes, and none of my basses have any belt damage.
