My Dirt Bender - Another Jounal

Two other pedals I did consider were the Jackson Audio New Wave and the Demedash T-60.
The former went out of my list after I did a bit of reading on the Pedal, which led to reading about the company.
Apparently they joined forces with Mike Fuller and are building the OCD pedals now, which is a (small) red flag in my book. I personally did not think Mr. Fuller handled himself graciously when his business went boobies up.
Furthermore, it was discussed that the QC and the customer service of Jackson seem to be sub par - and I can't abide that.
The Demedash looked interesting, but its special tricks were a bit too much towards the direction of the Fairfield Shallow Water - that randomness is great when feeding it a synth, but the organic component in my case comes from my sloppy playing, and I don't need that at all.
One more round of YT confirmed it - the lush sound of the Analogman is what I want.
I’ve ordered today what seems to be the last new Hot Cake overdrive in New Zealand (I think NOS, as it doesn’t have the external switches for the extended low end and “Bluesberry” mods). I feel somewhat remiss in not having tried these earlier; I’ve been living here for over 20 years now, and they are a well-loved part of NZ musical history.
Paul Crowther (along with his wife) still makes them all himself at home, and has done since he came up with the Hot Cake circuit in 1976, while on tour as the drummer for Split Enz. According to one source, this makes the Hot Cake the first ever pedal-format overdrive (there are earlier fuzzes), and it’s pretty extraordinary that it has been in continuous production ever since. Mr Crowther must be getting on a bit in years, so it may not be too long before these are discontinued, or production is handed over to someone else. At that point, I think there’s a distinct possibility that these start to fetch Klon-like figures on the used market, heaven forfend.
Back to the PnC, I’ve been playing around with it some more, and have settled (for now, at least) on a mild overdrive and filter setting (both drive and mix at ~1 o’clock), which just gives a nice point to the attack and works exceptionally well after a compressor (I’ve been using my DryBell Module 4 in front of it). Stacking it into other dirt pedals of various stripes helps maintain the attack that can easily get swallowed up as the overall gain increases. Very useful, and lifts the pedal out of the novelty category and potentially into always-on-signature-tone-with-a-twist territory.
That's my #1 chorus on the wish list right now. No more side jacks for me! Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Well, it was ordered and paid for. Analogman quoted that building the pedal will take about two weeks, and then it has to cross the Atlantic. I went with the expensive shipping option, so I hope it'll be with me shortly after they send it.
Yeah it's a rich pedal once you factor in top jacks, depth switch, the mix knob and the shipping. It was like 360 USD for me when I checked for those.
Definitely do an A/B with your Julia. If the Analogman gets a bit too thick / low end emphasized, I might just go for the Julia.

Then I thought of Ovnilab and how nice it would be to have something similar, only with bass dirt.
And then I made it happen
I went through the thread and plucked out everything I wrote about dirt pedals and sorted it, then put it in slightly different words if necessary and then I put it all online.
It's still rough and unfinished, but ...

All I got when I followed that link was a warning that I was about to have my identity stolen if I dared venture another click. I didn't.
The real jounal is a lot of fun, like this thread. I'm especially enjoying the complete disregard for (pretend) objectivity, unobtainable in any case. In most cases, regarding pedals with which I'm familiar, we're essentially in complete agreement, and where we're not, it's clear why. It's on my "must check in" list for any future potential purchases

I hope your reason for "it's clear why we are in disagreement" is not that I'm a complete moron and to thick to understand the sound I'm getting.
Okay, dirt pedals. I brought the Doom 2 to the metal band the other day.
I learned two things:
1. The Doom 2 is not as cool as the DCX in that setting. For some reason, even with the mids boosted on the Doom, the DCX sounded much louder in the mix - even though I played both pedals into the comp that was set to hard limiting. Also, the Doom 2 is not that aggressive in low settings.
2. Those 80s metal guys can't handle a synthy high gain fuzz sound very well
I learned two things:

. But really, no, just that if our overall evaluation of a pedal differs, it’s because we have different goals in mind. For example, I think I’m generally a bit more enthusiastic about the Hudson Broadcast than you are, even though your review of it is far from negative. Your descriptions of sounds I find to be very evocative (and frequently amusing) and those I gel with completely.Keep it up, man. I think you’ve already collected several avid readers
