My Dog Just Died

Very very sorry to hear it man. For me, pets are family, not animals.

I have three Miniature Dachshunds that are really getting up there in age and I know it's only a matter of time until I'm posting similar threads. That won't make it any easier though.

awww, so sorry. I had a close call a few days ago with my german shepherd. came home 3am from a gig, dog nowhere to be found. up all night worrying. felt guilty about not fixing the back fence and not looking for her tags that broke off her collar. when that happens the bottom just drops out from under you, right? especially since my last german shepherd several years ago got out from the basement (figured out how to turn the deadbolt lock on the door) and was found hit by a car 4 days later. the next day after contemplating staying home from work, I went to my car and found that I had left the car door open in a rush to leave for the gig on time, and she was crashed out in the back seat the whole time! phew... but only 6 months for yours, I'm curious what happened.

We lost our German shepherd last year, but he died of age. I believe it must be even more terrible since she was a just a puppy...

Thanks for all the kind words. I greatly appreciate them all.

She went out with me to check the mail like we've done a hundred times. I tell her to sit and stay in the middle of the driveway while I go to the mailbox. I went to take the mail in and to go get her a treat and she stayed outside. I came back out and there were cars pulling over and she was in the middle of the road. We moved her onto a blanket and it just so happens that a friend of mine was driving by so we loaded her into her car immediately and she went to the animal hospital and I got my wallet and followed in my car.

In the back they almost immediately started her on mannitol which is for swelling of the brain and intubated her. It went on for about 15 minutes and they started breaking out the code drugs I almost lost it.

I've been a paramedic for 6 years and if a car full of hemophiliac children crashed in front of my house I'd help out then go in and eat a sandwich. This sucked. I was doing all right until I got home and her favorite soccer ball was laying upstairs . I'll get another dog at some point and she won't leave my sight unless she's in a kennel or on her run.

We lost one like this, took off away from the bon fire and we found it hours later with a broken back on the side of the freeway up north the dog never even whimpered as we carried it home. My parents still let the dogs loose without being tied up so I'm worried it'll happen again.


6months is damn shame, beautiful dog, I wish I had time for dog these days for now it's the cats which don't leave the couch so the only car that can hurt them is me stepping on them...
