I've been toying with replacing my endpin now for some time. I made the decision that I wanted a fixed position pin since 99% percent of my playing is done standing up. After some research I found a few people making wooden pins, so I figured I'd ask Upton if they were interested in making one. I sent Eric a drawing with my ideas, and he sent back something better than what I'd asked for.

It's made it out of black walnut scraps from the ISB 50th Anniversary Karr model they made for Gary Karr. Not bad use of scrap. Aesthetically, a perfect match for a Standard - though I think the guys at Upton probably had that in mind before making it. Here is some wood p0rn:

Looks beautiful. Do you find it changes the tone compared to a steel pin?
TY.

To be perfectly honest, my practice room isn't really ideal for hearing changes like that. I would think that it has some effect, but it's not something I can detect at least in my practice room. I also play on one of those ergo mats, which dampens everything (but makes my back, feet, and knees feel better).

It was intended to be a functional upgrade more than any concerns about tone.
