You have any local metal supply stores? Look for perforated metal sheet, or expanded metal sheet.

I went to our local sheet metal shop but they don't carry what i was looking for. They said i'd have to order a 4x8 $piece... and we live an hour from any major city!

Yeah, 3/8" fuel line makes great grill standoff material.

That's what i figured i'd use, i have plenty of that!

3/8"heater hose works well too , that's what I use . This is a picture of mine years ago , I didn't use heater hose back then , just what the plans called for with rubber weather stripping on it .

Made a decision on the grill. I went the "industrial" route for now with 8 ga. expanded aluminum. If it annoys me, the next time I drag my table saw out i'll rip some wood and perhaps explore a fabric type of grill.

Thanks! I used 8 ga. expanded aluminum. i first cleaned/dried and coated it with some self etching primer, then applied the Modern Masters ME149-06 Reactive Metallic Copper paint. Followed by a spray clear coat.
