My fEARful 12/6/1 build..

What started 6 months ago whilst quarantined w/Covid came to fruition this weekend when my 3012lf finally arrived a few days ago, after an extended hiatus waiting for it. Anxious (to say the least) at getting it going, upon wiring it up in my cab, I had no noise!! Zero. So with trusty multimeter in hand, I immediately found that i had the cab input speakon wired incorrectly.
At that point i unpacked my (new/used) amp that was purchased awhile back from a forum member here and plugged 'er in! (i had left it packed as when shipped so it wouldn't annoy me that i had no cab woofer) :0
The bass i purchased a couple of years ago (beginner here) is an Ibanez Gi0 5 string.
Well...I have to say, working on long term memory from ~45 years ago of what my Fender Bassman Ten sounded like back then, this cab/amp/guitar/me sounds fantastic!!!
I know there are many subjectives to sound when shopping for a particular type(s) but so far this exceeds my expectations of what I was pursuing.
My merits this Sunday afternoon are kinda tender fingers and I almost know a song well enough to play before the Church congregation! (they'll let you know how rough you are)

Thanks!! Yup, it's got the rubber feet/standoffs. I do have a grill in mind...when i get it complete i'll post my results. I'm leaning towards a metal/beefier set up. Going into this build was weight concern but i figure a few more pounds won't make that much of a difference. It'll probably hitch a ride on a Harbor Freight hand truck. :0

I’d definitely recommend going with a metal grill. I bought mine online unfinished and spray painted it black.

I love the colors on the cabs!! I considered the same schemes but with clear coated Magenta. The cloth style grills also, in which choices abound! But I have a cat that will occasionally scratch my PA speaker to wake me up to let him out. (he figured out a way to get immediate results) I also looked at a "wicker" approach to work with the wood. So...there aren't any rules that say you can't have more than one? :)

<disclaimer> i'd probably have to assess myself to be that of a more industrial nature :cool:

Yes, the grill was bare metal. The stand-offs are soft rubber washers, 1.25 inches long. I believe they were provided when I purchased the grill, but I can't recall for sure. I had all the info from my build in a thread on the old Greenboy forum, but that has sadly disappeared into the ether.

Here's my old 12/6, one of the first few ever built. Dave Green changed the dimensions slightly after early builder feedback and I also had to roll my own crossover design along with several other early adopters since there was no "official" one yet at that time.

That grill came from Reliable Hardware and I used the included thick rubber automotive(?) hose to make standoffs. Not sure if Reliable still sells that specific hole spacing, but the last grill I bought from them a couple of years ago looks pretty similar.

Is there a more cost effective way of getting a grill than Reliable Hardware? Their stuff is great, and it’s not even the price but the shipping?

Also, what does everyone think of Duratex vs Tolex?

I'm a fan of Duratex. It's super easy to apply with a small roller, very durable, and touch ups are a breeze. I did 2-3 coats on my 12/6/1 with a small bag of Duratex and still had some left over for touch ups. Tolex looks great when done right but it's a lot more work to get there.
