After dreaming about it for years, I finally decided to start my first build. I've always been a fan of 5-string jazzes, but never found the one that just "did" it for me. So I've decided to start my own.
Here are my specs:
-All flamed maple body
-Chambered body for weight reduction
-Wanting to do a heavy contoured arch top (Similiar to PRS Grainger basses)
-Faded denim finish
-Warmoth Roasted Maple neck
-Chrome hardware
-Sadowsky preamp
-Nordstrand Big Singles
I received a bunch of free flamed maple from a friends father who works at a wood working facility who usually scraps figured maple because they use it for flooring, and apparently people don't want that. (I'll take it!!!)
I cut the boards today, and a trying to decide what piece to use for each half, and whether it's front or back. I am going to put the boards to a belt sander next weekend to straighten up the edges and smooth everything out. I won't make any final decision until after that, but here is what I'm thinking right now:
(thinking about flipping the top and back. The tight inner grain may look better on the back.)

And here is an idea of the finish, and type of contouring I want to do:
