Ey, sounds like me a few months ago lol. i too am looking for a REAL bass. some things i think you should think of:
1. RESEARCH your basses. i spent days and weeks searching up basses, asking friends, inquiring with my bass teacher...if you buy a bass and you end up only liking it "kinda" then what a waste of money!
2. THINK through!! i thought i was going to get either a Fender Deluxe Jazz or a Stingray a couple weeks ago until i stumbled upon G&L. now im definetly getting an L-2000 (maybe you should check it out. nice basses!!).
3. PLAY the instrument before you buy it. try it out at a guitarcenter or something. you never know how well you like the tone if you never try it!
it really depends on how much youre willing to pay and what genre you play. i understand that you play hard rock there but how many hard rock bands are there lol? theres a lot of variety. also with the pricing. im gettin the l-2000. VERY versatile and can make it sound like other basses pretty easily. but the price of that one is $1,200 US buckaroos. Tribute is only $700 i believe. so whatever fits you!
man i spent a lot of time on this reply lol. good luck with looking through. i hope my "essay" helps ya haha.
Later.
