My Girl Goes Under the Knife

For intonation’s sake!

I actually have many complaints about the StewMac miter box, but #1 is that it can’t fit this neck past the 12th fret, and I’m going to have to stick it on the mill to make it work.

I added a aluminum bar to make it wider and serve as a bench stop as well. Raised slightly so the fret slotting templates I use are retained as originally intended.

Fair play! Would you be willing to shoot a few more angles? That looks like a good mod.
Sure, will these help? Any piece of bar will do and it can be wider. Just drilled through at the required locations and put in longer screws. The end shot shows the piece left proud of the surface so my templates will still work (insert opposite side of where the guide pin is). I didn't have a bench dedicated to screwing this down so the overhang allowed me to hold it against the edge while cutting the slots. Needed it for a 6 string build. When I dedicate a bench I will probably lay the bar down flat to get extra width as I have a seven string build coming up.

Stew Mac doesn't think anyone builds a bass with more than 4 strings or at least should. I modded mine to accommodate a fretboard over 4". 7 string basses need at least 4" at the 24th. I made sure the mahogany thin strip to keep the fret templates completely parallel. I also had to make a jig to do a 48" radii on the fingerboard. I need a CNC in a bad way...
