We have (had?) an iMac we use as the family computer and my MBP which I use for my own work. I think the iMac died yesterday. It consistently crashes with a kernel panic while booting up. Tried all the Open Firmware commands recommended by some folks. Tried reformatting and reinstalling, still, dead. I have still to try to MCU reset option with the internal micro switch, but I'm not sure that'll do the trick if it's a hardware failure. The hardware test shows everything as passed.
Anyone had similar problems and was able to resolve them?
BTW, it's an old PowerPC iMac G5.
