My Lakland DJ vs USA Jazz Basses

Ive got my new Lakland Darryl Jones 2 weeks ago ! I wanted to see what u guys think about it. When i was going to shop i was thinking that i will leave there with an usa fender jazz bass. but when i tried 2 usa jazz bass, a 55-02 lakland, an american G&L and so on at the end best was (and by far in my opinion) was Lakland Darryl Jones. Its powerful even its a passive guitar ! Tree and workship is wonderful ! btw i never haerd of darryl jones before i meet with this guitar. sad for me tho

Hi sugosu, welcome to Talkbass! I agree, the DJ is a wonderful bass. I have a Skyline in candy apple red with a rosewood board.

I think they're great. I've got one on order myself. Hopefully it'll be here soon. Love the smaller jazz body and that neck is to die for.

Congrats on making a good choice! I had a DJ4 and now have a DJ5 (the DJ4 has since been traded away).....pre-Lakland I had a VERY nice USA Fender 50th anniversary P bass that I thought was one of the best basses in the world...that and my RIC...well, as you can see in my sig, both the Fender and the RIC are gone....traded or sold for Laklands.

Based on what I hear, the 2008 Fenders MAY be up to par or even "better" than Laklands (never tried them so I cannot say) but Lakland has one thing Fender will NEVER have and that is one-on-one personal service for upgrades, repairs or even simple questions....the actual builders and designers are an e-mail or a call away!!!

I was looking for a Jazz bass recently and compared the MIA Js and the Lakland Skyline DJ4. I went with the DJ. While there were a number of subtle differences, the real reason I went with the DJ because it just "fit" -- when I picked it up, it just felt right. I've had that happen in my other hobby - competitive shooting, where a rifle just fit perfectly and made shooting even more enjoyable. The DJ4 felt the same way.
