My Modded "Double Reverse P" Essex

The Quarter Pounder is really great in the bridge position on this bass. By nature, it's full, thick, and powerful sounding, which tames its bridge position brightness somewhat. And the balance with the neck pickup is about perfect.
Tone-wise, in the bridge position, it's full like a P-Bass should be, but with a pronounced high-mid that cuts through really well. Playing with my band, it really cuts through on the tunes that tend toward the muddy side of the spectrum. It's still very thumpy, though, which I like. Played aggressively, with a pick, it gets some tones reminiscent of a Rick. I'm not really much of a pick player, though.
My favorite so far is with the neck pickup on full, and the bridge pickup at about 75-80%. Sounds fantastic.
Yeah, I got the inspiration from Mr. Sklar, for sure.
Posting sound clips... sure, I'd love to. But I don't have the foggiest notion of how to go about that. I've got some recording software (Ableton) I can fire up to lay down a track or two, but I'm not sure how to get it from there to here.
Perhaps someone can give me a few pointers?
I like it -- it seems pretty much on par with some MIM Fender necks I've played, though a bit chunkier. I worked on the frets a bit, but they didn't take much to get level and nicely shaped.
My other fretted bass is an old Ibanez, with a much slimmer neck (similar to a J-Bass in profile), and to be honest, the SX neck is more comfortable to me.
Mine's finished! Here it is in the flesh with the Seymour Duncan vintage added, I also added a Hipshot D Tuner for the full on custom bass. My favourite sound is neck p/up full on, bridge at about 95% (about 30 degrees off full turn) which just adds that little bit of definition. Full on it's a Jazzish bass sound, but with more balls, just what I wanted. I'll still mainly use it with just the neck p/up, but when I need that extra zing I've got it there.
I don't have the hardware/software for that at the moment, but it is something I want to look into anyway. Watch this space.
is there any way to put 3 halves of a P pickup together like a 1 1/2, and solo out either the regular P or the reverse P to have a fast comparison?

to me it's the exact opposite; the tone seems like some sort of failed '70s experiment, but it just looks badass, like monster tires on a truck or something.
I LOVE the reversed P configuration after trying it on one of my homebuilt basses... I do think it sounds the best of any of my P-pickuped basses. Of course, it could be those G&L MFD pickups....

That is awsome bro - Im going to take my SX ash 5 string and add a Music Man style pickup at the bridge and a 5 string P-bass pup in the neck soon.. I've already replaced the bridge with a gotoh highmass bridge..
Old thread, but while searching for a double P pup thread, came across it. Sweet SX! I'm thinking of putting a reverse P pup in the bridge of my '84, but leave the current pup as is. It'll look a tad strange, but I think it would sound great.
