My new Ibanez SR 505PB

So I've been looking at the SR 505, even started a thread about what else to compare it with last night.

I called up GC today and asked what they have in stock, he told me a SR 505, and something called a SR 505 PBBBF. ***? I hadn't seen this weird model in all my research so I was very intrigued to go see it for myself. I researched a little and the only info that I could find was that this is a Guitar Center special edition from Ibanez. It's not advertised on GC's site, nor is it on Ibanez.com

I took a lunch break from work and dropped by to check it out, fully prepared to pull the trigger on a SR 505, since they are having the Columbus day 15% off sale right now.

I took one look at the PB model and was hooked. As much as I like the solid brown mahogany, this burl look really had me. It looks like more of a premium model. They also had a SR 755 there that looked really nice, I just can't justify the price difference for nearly the same exact bass. The PB model is $50 more than the regular 505. The PB feels a little lighter than the standard, but that could have been my imagination, the only difference between the two is the finish and poplar top, all other specs are 100% identical.

GC hooked me up with a helluva deal on this. I went ahead and bought a 2 year plan on it just to be safe and covered for ANY reason.

Stay tuned for pics, I'll update this thread when I get home this afternoon. Can't wait to play it!!

It's the 5 string version of my bass, a SR 500 that is a Guitar Center/Musicians Friend exclusive bass which is why it is not on any other music store sites or Ibanezes either.

Here is a picture of mine. I like it a lot better over the turd brown SR 500's and SR 505's.

Oops, just read you pulled the trigger and bought it. Good deal! When I was reading your post, my wife started talking to me and distracted me and I thought I read you were asking about the bass.

Here be my first 5 string Ibanez. I was a little torn between the standard finish and this one. I like the woodgrain oiled look of the standard, but hey, maybe that's an excuse to get me into a higher end model in the future! You sure don't see these every day.

Either way, I'm loving it so far, I've only had time to noodle about for a little bit, I'll give it a good spin a little later tonight.

Maxwell kept asking if this goes to 11.

Its been 7 years since I bought a new bass (as in unused) but I must have that

So I played for a couple of hours last night. It's very, very smooth. This is my first "modern" bass, I've had another model Ibanez years ago, kind of like P-Bass version. I've played quite a few Fenders and that's about it, mostly classic models of basses.

This plays like butter, can't comment too much on tone, I've only played it through my computer with studio monitors.

The only thing I need to alter is the action on the low B, it's a little too sloppy with low action, I'll work on that soon.
