My New Microtonal Bass!

For me, it’s getting one over on The Man (TM). Plus I’m a tinkerer. The neck illustrates that I’m a lousy tinkerer, but I’ve had my occasional successes as well.Sorry this is tangential, but I get a real high off modding/fixing with parts I already have as opposed to buying new stuff. I'm guessing you get a similar sense of gratification from it too. Feels like a bigger accomplishment to me, plus keeping the money in my wallet is a great feeling too
Sorry to hear that. Yeah, it can be tough. I only get it occasionally, but I have had some pretty long runs of little or no sleep, and I see why it’s considered a form of torture.

Ok, I’ve had the body since 1998 and the neck since 1976, but it’s the first time I’ve paired them up, so NBD!
I love Angine de Poitrine and decided I wanted a piece of that microtonal action, so I took the fretted neck off this body, and put on the defretted 1976 Fender P neck that I tried to learn refretting on and failed, then grossly oversanded when I changed the radius to 12”. It works, though, even if it isn’t the prettiest. Still needs a setup, but considering this neck hasn’t been on a bass in close to 20 years, it’s doing pretty well. Wish I could say the same…I’m having one of my insomnia episodes.
But at least I’m getting stuff done and not spending money to do it.
Do you plan to learn to play Fabienk and Sarniezz and Sherpa? Those songs kick arse.

In descending order we have: pico, femto, atto, zepto, yocto, ronto, and quecto.
Moving in the direction of increasing orders of magnitude from micro, we have: milli, centi, deci, deca, hecto, kilo, mega, giga, tera, peta, exa, zetta, yotta, ronna, and quetta.
These prefixes define incremental orders of magnitude of greater or lesser values.
The tonal possibilities are endless.

I'm with you Jimmy. I love getting "stuff" done and not spending money to do it.
I am always amazed at how much I can get done with just the stuff around the house.
What I really hate is looking for something, not finding it and going out to buy one only to find one squirreled away around the house the very next day.

That just happened with me. This bass was missing some pick guard screws, so I ordered a bag. Then as I was looking for something else, I found the bag I was missing. But at least I’m only out $5 and not $50. Or $500!
This microtone stuff has paid off handsomely already, and it’s only been 1 1/2 days. I used to have perfect pitch, but with age it’s gone straight to hell. Relative pitch is still strong, but so based on the 12 tone scale that I wasn’t even recognizing that Khn was using quarter tones. He could do a chromatic quarter tone climb up and I’d hear it as half tones because I’m so used to it.
But thanks to getting to know what the quarter tones actually sound like, I’m getting better at identifying them as I hear them in ADP’s alien surf music. Got a long way to go, but at my age, keeping the mind active is a survival technique. Remains to be seen if it works, but I’m going out fighting…right after my Jackass Film Festival.
