Maple 4-piece neck through with bubinga wings. Standard $$ electronics.

This is by far the nicest bass I have ever owned. Not only is it gloriously beautiful, it sounds incredible and is just chock full of every great sounding Warwick you've ever heard. I was originally slated to get a Warwick Corvette $$ standard in Emerald Green. There were none availible in the states so it had to be ordered from Germany. I did that, and when the boat got here, it wasn't in the shipment. There was some sort of mixup in the communication path and it was never made. Since I had sold all my other basses to afford the $$, and I was sick of no having a bass to use and dealing with borrowed entry level stuff, the great GREAT people (thanks Greg) at Rocket Music made it possible for me to upgrade to the NT and get it 3 days later instead of almost another month.

I took it to practice thursday night and really got to explore the settings in a live sound environment. I've only had it since then so these are all preliminary opinions and due to change.

Sound Clips! I suck by the way, please don't assume because I have a nice bass finally that I can play :D

First one here is all settings flat. EQ is on, both pups on single coil, pan is centered. This is my favorite setting.

Second one is both pickups in Parralel, pan centered, with treble boosted. With a little distortion or fuzz this would make a great Queens of the Stone Age sound.

Third we have just the bridge pickup in Parallel, trying to emulate a MusicMan sound. Does a good job I think, more growly though. The EQ was off/bypassed for this clip.

Fourth is a setting I've found cuts through live incredibly well. Neck pickup is single coil, bridge is parallel and treble is slightly boosted. Pan centered. Think Laklands :)

Fifth is just the neck pickup in Series mode, with EQ off. I tried to get a P-bass tone. Isn't quite there, but still sounds great in a mix.

Sixth is just the neck again, in Parallel with the bass cut.

And finally, to show how the bass sits in a mix, I've done a pretty poor job of playing over a song.

All clips were straight to the board, no EQ and no compression.

PROS:
Clear, powerful and defined sound with tons of low end and lots of warwicky growl. It cuts through fantastically. It's got a lot of versatility, and the quality is top notch all around. The bass is incredibly punchy and full of life. The notes seem to jump right off of the bass with very little effort, and they are all easily discernable even in a heavy mix. It has great sustain as well.

CONS:
The bass is heavy, and the preamp isn't as great as I'd like. When bass is boosted, the B string is MUCH louder then any other string. The Audere preamp does not do this, so i might upgrade to that. Series settings seem to sap a lot of the life from the tone. The pickups are passive and could in my opinion use a bit more treble response. The stock pre does a good job of adding the treble without getting fake sounding, though. This bass has a rather fat neck as well. I prefer them that way but not everyone will.

I could find almost no info on the NT $$s online so I figured I'd make this up to help others if they are interested in this model.

If you guys are looking for a Warwick, talk to Greg at Rocket Music. He is an honest and incredibly accomodating man who will get you a great deal and has your back no matter what happened. Something did happen with my order, and he made it right very quickly and with great communication. I'll buy from him again. Thanks!

Great review!

I've had my $$NT for almost 1 yr and I'm still loving it! I had mine set-up and I don't have issues with the B string being louder than the others.

I'm still tossing around the idea of switching out the preamp. I got a thing for Bartolini!!! I probably will in the next few months. Could you imagine this 5 string monster with a 3 band eq???

It was quickly set up at the shop, I'll take it in for a more comprehensive one as soon as I can put it down, which should fix some of the string buzz I'm dealing with as well. No biggie right now.

You can imagine a 3-band, but the Audere Classic is 4 band! :D It would make it impossible to use the Bypass feature of the preamp since the pan knob would require an active connection, but right now it may as well be a switch for me anyway as I don't ever leave it halfway between any of the settings.

I am lovin this bass!

Also, ibanezcollector, my internet is still some horrid wireless signal that cuts out after 3 bytes are transferred and takes ages to do anything, so AIM is not working. We're getting some real internet installed this week.

the sound is pretty nice but

is there anything harder than trying to make a warwick bubinga bodied, NT, active with MM PUs sound like a fender p bass?

LOL. You have a perfectly valid point. I didn't buy this bass because I wanted a P bass but I figured it would be worth a shot to see what it could do to emulate one, should I ever need one. It DOES have a maple neck, and the series coils are the same idea as the two single coils wired in humbucker mode in a P pickup.

Also, the pickups themselves are passive. Only the preamp is active, and I had it bypassed for that clip. So the bass was all passive for that one. :)

Nice bass.

I have never been a huge Warwick fan as I really don't like the tone compared to Fender-style and Stingray basses.

Having said that, I am likely going to pick up an inexpensive used Corvette $$ in the near future to add to the arsenal as they do sound so different. I think a Fender Jazz type (Sadowskys), Fender Ps, EBMM Stingrays AND a Warwick would completely cover off any kinda sound one could want.
