What’s next, the flooring?

Next is all of the stuff I described a couple posts back. After that it’s HVAC, final electrical (contractor), HVAC seal test and refrigerant vacuum (contractor), door staining, flooring, door install (contractor), base trim, door casing, switch plate covers, dance party.

EDIT: ...and then an isolation test using my drum kit as a noise generator If the isolation isn’t quite up to snuff then I’ll need to build baffle boxes around the HRV openings on the exterior of the north wall.

Are you going to caulk that trim in Silky? You're going need some horse caulk for the NW corner gable section.

Yep. Foam backer (for big gaps) and sealant, as well as sealant on both the top and bottom of all trim to give it a finished look.

I’m hoping that since we’re headed into the colder months construction will have slowed a bit and I’ll be able to get them on-site without too much hassle. Just have to punch some components through the north wall first!

Mini split hole has been drilled. I didn’t plan my hat channel very well. As you can see there’s a piece of it right in the way of the mini split lines. I’m going to have to cut it out, but first I need to refer back to the hat channel maps I made to make sure cutting it won’t make the mini split unstable.

I’ve determined that there are enough fasteners around the mini split and in this particular piece of hat channel to not sweat cutting a notch out of it. The actual cutting is proving to be tonight given the space constraints. Getting there though!

The hole saw and Arbor wasn’t long enough to get through, so I needed an extension. A scary tool just got scarier.

It worked quite well and you have an index mark for the hole saw on the other side. How good is that!

When you get the other side drilled, watch that you don’t get a big bird thinking that it’s an entrance to a fancy bird house.

HRV complication. They switched the power supply on this model between the time I selected it and the time I purchased it. It used to be hardwired, but now they supply the unit with a standard electrical cable. I have power run for this thing, and I definitely don’t want a piece of HVAC equipment on the same circuit as musical equipment. Time to reach out to my electrical contractor for assistance.

That’s not a bad idea, except that we have a future hot tub going in the location outside the wall where the power for it is currently run and you can’t have an electrical outlet that close to the hot tub per code. Waiting for a response from my electrician to see what we can do. Worst case scenario is that we remove the power wire from the circuit breaker, abandon it in the wall, and then I’ll run an extension cord from the HRV over to the dedicated non-music-gear outlet on the east wall, which is a circuit for my computer, possibly now the HRV, Slate Raven, etc. (i.e. things not in the recording signal path). If that ends up being required I’ll do something to tidy up the extension cord and hide it along the floor. Not the end of the world, but not an ideal situation either.
