My new Warwicks.

So, my Corvette Standard finally arrived so I thought I'd show you guys my small collection of Warwicks. It seems they're a bit of a love/hate brand around here, but I've always liked them.

The $$5 has a huge neck and is incredibly heavy though, which I don't much like. Luckily the Fortress One's neck is tiny and excellent for my small hands, and the Corvette Standard is nice and thin too. I've been offered a swap for a Rockbass Corvette $$ for my Rockbass Corvette $$5, but it's my only 5 string which might come in handy. Only thing I dislike is the finish -- 'wicks look so much better with a natural or oil finish, in my opinion. To trade or not trade? Thoughts?

Anyway, my bass collection currently stands at: Two German Warwicks, one Warwick Rockbass, a Fender Jazz fretless and a Squier VM Precision Special which is soon to be upgraded with a Fender neck (maple/maple, since I love it so much on my Stratocaster), Fender USA pots/wiring, Gotoh 201B bridge, Wilkinson tuners and Seymour Duncan Steve Harris Signature P and Quarter Pound J pickups. I'll post some photos of that once I start work on it -- just waiting for the pots and a new neck plate to complete the gold hardware look.

Got three Warwicks myself, a Corvette active, a Corvette $$ and a Thumb NT.

If you really don't get on with the neck on the 5 stringer, swap it. You can always string a 4 string BEAD if you need a low B.

Or find another Rockbass 5 string model to swap it with, and I agree with you about the painted finishes (with the exception to white with black hardware). I have a Rockbass Streamer LX painted black that is the best bass I've ever owned but I just can't get with the finish.

Nice Wicks! I agree with the other comments here on finishes. Warwick is all about the wood, to me their basses look best when the wood is clearly visible. As for the Corvette $$, I don't think I'd trade it for a Rockbass. I'd probably save up some cash while looking for a clean used German Corvette $$ then do a cash + bass trade if necessary.

1998 Thumb BO5 with thin profile neck

Still searching for the perfect early model German Corvette $$ with a wenge/wenge neck and oil finish.

I love the Fortress too, it's from 1994 so it's the oldest instrument that I own. The wenge/wenge neck/fretboard is amazing too, I just LOVE the feel of it on my fretting hand. /jizz

Oh god, that Fortress. I've wanted one of those forever, but the only version I've been able to get my hands on is the MM-style version, which is about as far away as a P/J as you can get. If one day you wake up and realize you've turned into Tim Allen, then somehow turn into Santa Claus, drop me a line.

Unless I've misunderstood, the $$4 in the photos is a rockbass. I think they're great basses, I've got a shortie rockbass and love it.

I love Warwicks, but I don't own any German ones at the moment

Spot on, All Warwicks are great basses! I might have misread the OP. I thought the dilemma was trading a Corvette $$ 5 string Rockbass for a Corvette $$ 4 string Rockbass. Since its the only 5er the OP has I wouldn't do it. Instead I'd recommend the OP donate the 5 string to me.

BTW - do you know how long I've been searching for a used Warwick Shorty! I've all but given up. I'm nearly to the point of making a Warmoth shorty with either a Thumb J/J layout or a Corvette $$ layout.

OP - sorry about the hijack! That's a great bass collection you've got there, really love the Fortress body style, don't see too many of those.

That Fortress is my old bass. Great to see it getting the attention it deserves. It has such a great neck. Enjoy it.
