Although I do and have owned a lot of cool gear, I'm not one to harp on about it, preferring to play and learn about and take care of, improve and buy and sell it.
This is different...
I'm a 1974 boy, getting on, yes. I drive (and repair...) my Lancia (Flavia) 2000ie from, yes, 1974. And interestingly, 47th year is turning out to be very interesting indeed.
Now this. From..... yep, you guessed it.
I picked it up yesterday and restrung it in 5ths CGDA with a set I made up, as low tension as I could find. I will be onto Newtone for a custom set.
Bridge lifting a bit (1/8 inch), I'll replace with a traditional style one cos this is for a main player.
Glued repair of headstock end top inch of fingerboard, but neck is straight, rods have been checked and it all feels really solid. Yes I will be careful of it...
Rear pickup is Seymour Duncan SRB. Sounded bad and woofy so I split the coils and ran it as a single which works okay but is still a bit overpowered. I'm guessing parallel wiring might be hotter but I'll try that too. Prob a Joe Barden at some point. Front pickup is niiiiiiiice. I didn't realise how much is in that pickup, it grinded pretty good at band rehearsal last night!
The binding and shape do hurt and now I recall seeing bassists with ricks with tennis wristbands (black of course haha!). I think I can get around it, got the right strap height and strap and be mindful of it. Greatness will always have a price.
My perfect Rick would be this but no binding but at the CRAZY aussie price, sacrifices must be made.
Ciao.
