Double Bass My Pop's Last Bass

When I was a kid, my Pop had a Prescott, sold to a player in the Dallas Symphony for mortgage payments. This was his bass of later years. I had it repaired at Stein on Vine in LA, had a Realist p/u installed. Gary said it was maybe Czech or French, late 19th or early 20th century. Its kind of beat, but man it sounds good! Keeps me connected to my Pop.

I'm quite sure it's a Czech, as I have a bass just like it, with the same f-hole positioning and dimensions and a more "vertical" shape. It even has the same finish. The kicker is that most of the chips and cracks appear to be in the same place.

He got it from a family of musicians from Poland. How curious the path of this bass...!

Forgot to mention that I inherited mine from my father as well. THAT is a coincidence.

I think Pop just went lefty for that shot. He didn't want the missing scroll volutes on that old Kay to show up in another shot.
