Double Bass My Pop's Last Bass

This is a terrific post! I wish my Dad had some musical heritage to pass along but he was a drummer. :hiding:

Seriously, my dad has severe arthritis and doesn't play anymore, but every once in a while when my brother and nephews and I get a little jam going around the house, he'll grab a pair of spoons and keep time. And when my Mom, who is partially paralyzed from a stroke, joins in the harmonizing with her still-perfect alto, for a few minutes at least, everything is right with the world.

Cherish that bass, and the music your father left in it -- and in you.

I like this post, Wino. (hi to Mrs. Wino.) Especially the first sentence.
It's spot-on, how we can care about each other, and still take a loving shot here, and there.
Again, props to the OP.

i love this thread.

brought the tears in my eyes. thank you all.

So kind of you to share personal photos, must admit to imagining i had a dad like that, you would not believe just how much we "borrow" your dad and think he was our dad.....Proxy dad for the bass players out there whom missed out, well not missed out for a brief moment as we look at your pictures, hope your dad would not have minded being borrowed for a moment in time. Cheers.

Looks like your pop was a true renaissance man.. That look of pure joy on his face as he 'sheds in his shop..
Welding mask, electrician's pouch, headgasket, axe, fishin rod, etc. all indicate this cat had a rich life going on..

And dig those 2 wacky home-made metal bows on the pegboard..!!

Thanks for sharing this with us!!

:smug:

When I was a kid, my Pop had a Prescott, sold to a player in the Dallas Symphony for mortgage payments. This was his bass of later years. I had it repaired at Stein on Vine in LA, had a Realist p/u installed. Gary said it was maybe Czech or French, late 19th or early 20th century. Its kind of beat, but man it sounds good! Keeps me connected to my Pop.

What a nice collection of photos and what a great reminder of your Pops. That first shot is so great. That Bass has so much character. I hope you keep it in the family.
