My Singlecut Custom -feedback

so here is the first draft of a drawing by Martin Keith. it is a bit of fusion between his usual bolt on and set neck sinlecut body shapes.

it is going to be a 33 inch scale
3 piece maple neck
5 string E-C
birdseye baord with no markers
chambered ash body
dual coil norstrand pickups
4 band audere preamp with active passive switch and coil taps for the pickups
Black hardware

the thing i am unsure about is the top wood. im considering some sort of burl. preferably darker. a figured walnut possibly.

Personally I'd slant the bottom of the body more. The whole body looks strained - if thats the right word.

Sounds killer, although I'm not sure if I would do the E-C thing, since I took a look at your profile and you already have an E-C bass.

I'm loving the fact that it's going to be 33' scale. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing progress pics.

im actually lookign to sell everythign i have right now, and buy a 4 string jazz bass to gig with and hold me over until the cutom is done. i use the high c a lot more than the low b and thought the higher setup would also be a better choice for the 33 in scale.

Some sweet nasty buckeye burl w/ mostly those little blackish blue clusters.
I love the body shape. What fret will the upper horn bubble reach? Will it balance well?

I think that it's going to look great!! For me, singlecuts are either love or hate. I love the look of yours. The chambered body is a cool idea. I have a sinclecut 5 string tuned E-C, and I've contacted Michael Dolan about hollowing it out. It's a bit too heavy, and, well, I've always loved hollowbodies.

Black hardare, Nordys, 33" scale, Audure pre....Yep, sounds like it's right up my alley. Congrats.

im deffinitely excited about the project! this was a first draft drawing by martin that sort of combined his two usual body shapes for singlecuts. i was thinking the same thing as nonohmic regarding the bottom of the body, maybe slantign it out liek a benavente sc body. im not sure though. martin gave me the idea for the cmahbered north american ash body to keep it light since i wanted that ash/birdseye maple snap, but would love to keep the bass as playable as possible(needs to be comfy for 4 hour gigs).

in regards to the bass balancing well-i had the chance to play about 5 of martin's basses at the upstate ny g2g that i helped throw together. all of the basses i played were singlecuts, and they all felt amazing. the maple/ash bass shown on the openign page to his website had a crazy birdseye maple board, and he has a piece of that same birdseye being saved for my fretboard!!!

regarding the top- buckeye has crossed my mind, but i think i would liek to go with something a bit more rare and different. i love some of the burled elms that jerzy drzod uses for tops, somethign liek that could be a cool option. the other thing im toyign with is having birdseye maple pickup covers to contrast with the top. i hink right now im leanign towards leaviung them black to match the hardware.
