My situation.

Ok... i have been playing about 8 months. I play in a rock band with my friends and I am also in my school jazz band. I mute the E string with my thumb and when im the G string I mute the A with my ring finger.

So my technique is seriously lacking along with my reading, and theory knowledge. I really wanna start taking my instrument more seriously now, get my chops up, and become an all around better player.

My plan is to rework my chops by playing exorcises extremely slow then slowy, slowy, working my way up. I also am going to go throw my scales in everykey the "pacman" way. And try to learn somthing new about theory everyday.

Hows is it sound?

sounds good man that's the way to do it... also if you haven't already you should find a teacher to correct technique. bad technique can cause some serious problems later both playing and health related...

another thing to add in there is to transpose music.. if you can write it you can read it. also transposing will build your ear, give you ideas, and put the theory you're learning into context for you

Dardanthian welcome to TB. Consider filling out your profile, it would be helpful.

Depending upon where you live, there may or may not be numerous teachers available. If you live near a metro area, there will be a lot of music teachers. If you live near a University or Music School, finding a teacher should be very easy. Call the school and see if the bass Professor takes private students, if not, his best students.

A teacher is the way to go. Music is a language and without some help, you will be taking a very, very long road. Teacher will cut the learning curve exponentially.
