When I first bought my pbass I hated the strings that came on it. I bought a set of d'addario strings that were one gauge higher / 50-105 chrome round wounds.
Soooo I took the bass in for a set up and the tech asked what kind of strings I wanted so I told him what I had on it and showed him the packaging so there would be no chance of confusion. I leave the bass there for two days and when I pick it up to my surprise the tech decided I was using the wrong kind of strings so he put a set on that "more suits my style and will be better for your bass".

They were the 45,65,85,105 d'addario pro steels. Ummmm no sir I don't like it. I at least gave them a chance for about two months but they really aren't for me. After months of playing they are still to bright and zingy.

I'm happy to say though that after reading all sorts of posts here that I grabbed a set of Dunlop super brights and oh my. It sounds like a whole new instrument. They sound better , feel better, and play better for me. Super Bright may be the worse name for these strings but they sound fantastic.

Glad it all worked out.

I bought several sets when they went on sale at bassstringsonline.com not long ago but haven't put them on yet.
By the way, the owner is a member here. Great customer service and a TalkBass discount.

That was a little cocky of the tech to swap your strings. He was just trying to increase the ticket total. He doesn't care what strings you use. He just wanted to sell you something. You should have demanded your strings back.

Still, it all seemed to work out.

Yeah glad it worked out, and yeah the 'SuperBright' name is misunderstood. Everybody thinks they are bright and zingy because of the name, but they are called SuperBrights because they are like SuperBright headlights (and kind of a nudge to their DR heritage) in that they make everything come to life and hide nothing. They are very crisp and clear sounding.

That tech may have have made a sale, but they may have lost a customer. I've been going to that store for almost 15 years. Just because I'm new to bass doesn't make me dumb. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
