hey, i just got myself a traynor YBA-1A and i am looking for a cabinet to match, and i've got my eye on the traynor 8x8's i see floating around..

problem is, they're rated at 4 ohms and my head runs at 8..

unless you use both outputs, then it runs at 4 ohms, or so the manual states.

so my question is, if i connect the two outputs from the head to the two inputs on the cab, will it then run at 4 ohms?

or will the amp then see a 2ohm load??

or will everything just explode?!?

Short answer: Everything will just explode.

The "inputs" on the cabinet are parallel, meaning that both inputs go to all the speakers instead of 2 separate circuits. Things end badly that way. The 2nd "input" jack on the cabinet is meant for daisy-chaining another cabinet.

AAH ok, thank you! So basically, I'd be shorting it out. I can see how that would end in a less than favourable manner.

i guess my next question is, would i have to get the cab modded to run at 8 ohms then?
or is there some other device i can throw into the mix?

what he says is true... if your cabinet is rated for 4 ohms.. than in most cases a head will put out its 4 ohm rating to the cabinet....

I know not of this head you are using.. but if it seriously WONT put out 4 ohms unless BOTH outputs are being utlizied (it will only power 2 8 ohm cabs and no 4 ohms cabs) than that is really retarted....

sweet! ok. i guess tube amps are smarter than i gave them credit for?

i hear of newer amps having swtiches that you can set what ohm load you're giving it... mine doesn't have anything close to that kind of feature, VERY bare bones.
