N00b to the world of stompboxes

Hey I've never been one for stomp-box effects until recently but now I have a delay, overdrive and compressor/limiter. I was just curious in which order I should plug them in. I was thinking overdrive, delay, then compress right before it enters the head. Am I totally off here?

The only thing that matters with effects is if it sounds good to you and your band. Try putting them in different positions and listen to see what you like best. Remember, every pedal reacts differently to other pedals. So no one but you will be able to tell you what sounds best.

usually whatever sounds right to you would do it in anycase

but theres a psuedo science to it if you look around there are guides

id say overdrive then delay then compressor

The traditional order would be OD -> Delay, with the comp on either end depending on what you like.

I think that you might get problems with comp after delay... since the repetitions of the delay get quieter, the compressor might effect the delay a little too much by increasing the volume/amplitude... of course: it's all personal preference when it comes to effect order.

I'd try: Instrument -> Compressor -> Drive -> Delay -> Amp. That should be a good point to start from.

Thanks for all the advice. I know it mostly depends on the sound that my band is looking for, but I was mainly referring to the use of the limiter. So I think I'll try the limiter first as wootie mentioned.
