This wasn’t in the plan when I decided to assemble a rig after years of not playing. I looked at the WTX500 before I bought my 550, just because I didn’t feel like I needed anything more. Turned out that a used 550 was cheaper, but also that the 500 was not as good as its predecessor, the 260.
A few months into playing regularly with my drummer/roommate, I moved my stack out of the jam room, and back to the kitchen where it had been born. Cathedral ceilings lend something that drop ceilings can’t, and ultimately, I’m still getting used to what I sound like.
I lugged my 550 and 210 back down those stairs once, and that was enough. I needed to find a second amp to play with my drummer.
Right on schedule (I recommend praying to the devil; turns out he’s a sucker for fulfilling worldly desires) this turns up on Reverb, cheaper than most of my pedals. And, the legends were true. This amp is gorgeous at 4 ohms. At 8 it’s fantastic, but at full power, she sings. My first reaction was, “How do I make the 550 sound like this???”
I’m considering an Eden D215 XLT down the line, but until that time, either and/or both of my other cabs (D210 XST/D212 XST) will do the trick.
