Went to the local music store in town today looking for a sixer today and stumbled upon a peavy mini max on sale for 349$ brand new. I've been looking for an amp that puts out 350 watts @ 8 ohms to pair with my new bergantino hdn112 cabinet and this suits the bill. Still have the MB 1000 watt head into my Genz Benz Uber 410 if I need more firepower. Nice to have options and not have to lug extra lbs when not needed. Cheers!

Probably a great amp. I wanted something smaller so I bought an ELF.
First just the head, then sold that and bought a 1-10 combo.
No issues that Trace Elliot= now Peavey

Great score!

I'm interested how the two heads compare using the HDN112.
I'll have to do a side by side comparison after I get to spend a little more time with it. First thing I did when I got it home this afternoon was to do a comparison between the preamp in the mini max and the subway mesa preamp+ and to my ears the mesa sounded better. Albeit I've already got the mesa set up how I like it and didn't spend a lot of time with the mini max pre. Lots of different combinations with the EQ shaping buttons on the mini max unexplored as of yet. I'll have to do a MB vs Mini max comparison. As far as the cab goes, she's going to give a very accurate representation of whatever you send to her. Every bit as articulate, tight, focused and dynamic as my Genz Benz Uber 410 just a 1/3 of the power rating.

Yeah, I would love to hear any comparison between the Peavey and Markbass heads. Even just the most general. Thanks. The Bergie looks nice!
Just a couple things right off the bat. 1) The MB fan is much quieter than the fan on the mini max. 2) On the MB you can drive the preamp hard and can get very dirty, where the mini max just goes to the very beginning of breakup. Think a gritty fuzz vs an OD with just a tiny bit of drive engaged. 3) With everything set at noon the MB is a little more present in the high mids and highs and a bit brighter across the board 4) Mini max has both passive and active inputs where the MB has just the one input. 5) The MB has a 4 band EQ. The peavy has a 3. 6) The Peavy has an on board tuner the MB doesn't. The peavy is rated 350 W @ 8 Ohm, 600 W @ 4 Ohm. The MB is rated 600 W @ 8 Ohm, 1000 W @ 4 Ohm. My initial impression is that the sound floors are similar, the MB might be a hair quieter? Not sure though would have to do a side by side comparison. As far a loudness goes, I would say watt for watt it's dead even between the two Overall I'm happy with both amps. I run a mesa subway preamp+ paired with a boss gx-10 for my compressor and whatever other effects I need in my signal. So both preamps are getting bypassed and I'm just using the power section of the amps at the moment. That mesa subway pre+ just sounds so darn good it trumps them both IMHO. Now don't get me wrong, both the MB and Peavy are great in their different ways, but the Mesa is something special. But as they say horses for courses as YMMV.

Thanks for the write-up! I would expect the MB to outperform the Peavey, I am a little surprised the basic voice of the Peavey is darker.

I understand loving the Mesa pre. I have been using a D-800+ as my main amp for the past 6 years.
