Got this today..
I was ready to put new caps in but its done... and with some great caps!!
Notice how this is a VTA - 400 but its not the Festival Series model.
First test run was good but one of the tubes is microphonic and it howls at any decent volume. I'll check it out more tomorrow when I can crank it.

The circuit board is held up by the lugs on the pots... HMMMM.. may have to rebuild it. Seems like good quality components and good workmanship besides that.

But first I need to figure where to hook in the "power amp in"... Cant wait to try my VTPB 201 with this power section!!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Ah, one of my favorite Peavey amps, good score man! I had something remotely similar (Peavey Mace) that was SWEET through a 2x15 rig, and was super reliable. Good luck with this one, the old Peaveys are built like tanks though so I wouldn't expect many problems

Looks like you made 4c on the deal, too! ;)

Back when I was a kid we all bagged on Peavey gear, but I have to admit in retrospect that that head was pretty good. A buddy of mine had one and it was a solid amp.

This is a strange beast... its actually a VTB 300 with a VTA 400 face plate I dunno maybe some bad acid in the early 70s??

The VTA 400 has 2 channels. ( 3 preamp tubes ) with some way to hook it up so you feed one of the channels with the other and create overdrive.

this one has an identical power amp section but only one channel on the pre. which makes it a VTB 300.
