I have an odd question for the TBers here. I picked up an upright for the first time in 5 years the other day. It brought back some old memories of playing in high school. One of the guys I used to play with had this great rosin that I really liked.

All I can remember about the rosin is that it was dark green, almost jade, and it came in a wooden case (instead of the paper one that Pops comes in). This will sound kinda weird, but I remember that it smelled like campfire after rubbing it on the bow. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the rosin that is extremely hard and comes fitted in little wooden "cases" is more typically a violin thing.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I've seen violin rosin sorta like that, but never bass rosin.

One of the reasons that it caught my attention in the first place was that it was in the wood case. That was the first bass rosin that I've seen like that. I'm fairly certain that it came like that and it wasn't something he did himself.

From what I remember, it had a very strong grip. Any more than two or three pulls across it would almost be too much. It also didn't splinter and leave little rosin particles like Pops did. It did produce a lot of powder though. It was a bit harder than Pops too. I live in Arizona and Pops has a tendency to get pretty gooey here, but this rosin never really lost it's shape.

The only picture of Sherman's I found was from the top down and that makes it look kinda black. But other than that, it looks pretty familiar. I'll see if I can find a better picture of it tomorrow.
