Name This Bass

I like dean basses. They are pretty good and not a lot of people really seek them out. The most famous player I can think of is the bass player with Wierd Al and I don't even know his name. I saw an interview when he said he loves how easy he gets a variety of tones and that they all sound convincing and not forced which in his case is a selling point when you look at the ground they covered rap to punk to everything in between.
Jeff Berlin was with Dean for 14 years from 1999 to 2013 before he switched to Cort Rithimic.

Brian Bromberg has been playing Dean 32" ABG Performer and Radiant and 32" Stylist Hollow Body as Piccolo basses for at least 17 years.
Performer ABG

Radiant ABG

Stylist

Many other vids of Berlin and Bromberg with their Dean basses on YT.

Stop in here Dean Club!!! some time and peruse the pages for all kinds of Dean info the people presently at Dean don't even know 'cause all the older folks left, retired or passed away.

My teenage daughter is a bassist and is a fan of Steve Lacy. She asked me to identify this bass he’s pictured with but I don’t know what it is. Kind of looked like an LTD but I don’t believe it is.

So, can anyone name this bass?

Very interesting as that Dean Bass, the Zone XM, not to be confused with the Zone II XM (made exclusively for GC) or the Custom Zone, is their lowest line entry level bass, besides the 'Playmate' version of the Edge 09.

Agreed. The artist in question, Steve Lacy, generally plays all of the instruments and records all of his albums on an iPhone w/ an iRig and GarageBand. So, he’s not afraid to use whatever works, including using the Dean. He does have nicer basses now, including a purple Fender Adam Clayton P-bass sig model.

Anyway, I had just learned of him last week when my daughter asked about the bass on the cover of his first EP. His stuff isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but I dug some of it.

I'll have to check him out.
Check out my Deans on my profile.
