I don't consider myself a weight weenie, but I am getting to the point, after 37 years of playing, that I appreciate a lighter bass. My Mendel P and my 1970 P are very light and fun to play. My T-40 has nearly perfect frets and is a joy to play - sitting down. My Brute SC is great for a 90 minute set. However, I don't get uptight about it and weigh my basses, and the only ones I really know exact weights for are the ones I bought from
Sweetwater.
I would say that there are FAR too many great P basses out there to settle for one that is twelve pounds, or even double-digits in weight. That is almost 50% heavier than a P bass really has to be. My '75 is in the "heavy" category, and it is my least played P bass.
