Natural Ash basses are boring. Especially with a maple fretboard.
It's like eating unsalted soda crackers. Leaves you wishing there was some flavor to it.
I don't get the allure.

I don't get the allure of front routs, pickguards, huge headstocks, sunburst finishes or fender worship. But many do and good luck to them, may they enjoy playing their basses, which they like, even if I don't.

I like natural ash bodies. Even if it isn't the prettiest hunk of wood, I prefer boring or even ugly looking natural ash bodies over painted bodies. I also don't like covering up the wood with a pickguard. But that's just me! I don't really encourage people to like the same things as me, it's fun to have variety.

I'm gonna agree with Richard.

In the 70s, My '72 natural Jazz was so boring (w/ white PG) that I would fall asleep while playing.
So I had it refin'd burnt orange/tort and instantly it started playing livelier, at least in my mind.

I would not pay new or used Fender prices for that bass,
but if it was a steal, boring would have a new home...057912

I have a love / hate for them . So yes / no lol . I did have my original '96 U.S. Schecter fin'd by Pat Wilkins who is an original Schecter employee These S series were all oil finished .

so for me it was natural vs. LPB

In all seriousness, I do like a nice natural chunk of wood, but with a little flavor, maybe a bit of a dark stain or even roasted body.
