Natural Ash basses are boring

Natural Ash basses are boring. Especially with a maple fretboard.
It's like eating unsalted soda crackers. Leaves you wishing there was some flavor to it.
I don't get the allure.

Play one for a while and you will, but go for a rosewood or ebony fretboard.

All wood grains are different and unique, and look classy.. for me either a black or red bass body with a white (only white) PG seems boring and cheap, but that’s just me.

Natural finish basses aren't necessarily my taste, but I happen to have a few that I really love.

I overlook the woody all natural vibe they have.

It takes less effort to not look at one or play one.
I would be disintegrated if I said a sunburst P with tort through an SVT wasn’t the only holy grail.
Who cares? Who cares what anyone likes but you?
If this is entertainment enjoy. Otherwise the world could use IMHO acceptance. Acceptance in every corner.

Ok, I’m changing my vote. As you might guess from my previous response, I voted “Who cares?” because I judge basses primarily by their sound, and their feel in my hands if I can play it. Not that I ignore aesthetics, but that’s secondary to me.

But y’all got some purty axes on this thread. So I’m switching to up with natural baby!

A natural finish is timeless not boring. The grain tells a story that comes straight out of the earth not a paint pot.

Half my basses are natural finish, several are Ash. My fave! And I LOVE sushi!

You have to appreciate quality wood to get it. I worked in a sawmill for awhile so I have a different perspective. If you think it needs to be covered with paint that’s ok too.

Well then you'll hate this. Ash Warwick. Alder Yamaha, and a Maple/Alder Yamaha. I honestly don't know how that happened. Just did.
