Natural Fat Overdrive: Poll

Looking for an overdrive that is fat sounding with a natural breakup to it. No Fuzz/ I hate fuzz. I have the Way Huge green Rhino and like it just wondering what other players think. Im sure there are far more pedals than I have listed but these are the one im interested in. You can see the equipment i use in my signiture. Please no Tube amp remarks as im not interested in owning tubes right now.

I should add that ive tried the Sans Amp Bass driver Di and didnt care for it, seemed like it colored my tone too much and didnt sound natural to me.

I voted other for the proco rat. I'm not sure what you mean by hating fuzz, when looking for an overdrive. I think the rat has a thick overdriven sound without being too fuzzy.

Hating Fuzz means I dont care for things like the Big Muff, just not my cup of tea.

I like the Ibanez PD7 (Phat Hed). Costed me under 50 bucks and sounds good. Doesn't eat your lows, as well.

EBS MultiDrive sounds more natural than many other o.d's through an amp that suffers from solid state dryness.

In case the Sansamp has anything to do with your desire not to upgrade to tubes, real tube amps don't sound all colored and crummy like a sansamp. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

My choice head and shoulders above the others with your gear is the EBS Multidrive. Unlike a lot of pedals, it's actually designed to be useable with solid state amps and active basses, and it's a great sounding pedal. I highly recommend it.

I never really know what people mean when they say 'fat overdriven' but hate 'fuzz' :S

My choice head and shoulders above the others with your gear is the EBS Multidrive. Unlike a lot of pedals, it's actually designed to be useable with solid state amps and active basses, and it's a great sounding pedal. I highly recommend it.

I was surprised by the Multidrive. The Valvedrive is nice for putting some great fur on the tone but the Multidrive is a great pedal itself and has a pretty wide range of sounds.

Personally, my favorite overdrive is the Darkglass Microtubes B3K. A bit spendy but it sounds fantastic and has a wide range of tones and gain.

BJFE Blueberry Bass Overdrive. I haven't tried a sh@tload of OD's but this is by far the best IME/O. The Line 6 Bass POD Hog's Foot model was pretty nice though.

My favorite fat overdrive for many years has been the Digitech Bad Monkey. Warm and full without being dirty. They are also very inexpensive and well made.

Yes, it is made for guitar but it works great with bass too.

DHA VT1 works great for me. Nice tube and wonderful sounding effects. Kind of wild looking though...

Xotic Bass BB. I can adjust the gain to get *exactly* the amount of dirt I need from zero (no audible distortion - it works as a clean boost) to plenty-'nuff-for-me, with quite a bit still to go. Bass and Treble cut 'n' boost gives me even more control.

This is with a stock passive USA Precision.

Another +1 for the hardwire CM-2 here.

I have both this and the Sansamp and it blows the sansamp out of the water for warm breakup. Even though it's a guitar pedal the mids are nice and fat. Not honky or harsh like a lot of guitar pedals people use for bass. It's almost an always on pedal for me because of it's good dynamics.
