Yep, this went far beyond a few bad calls. LeBron double teamed and finding the open man with a good look on the perimeter. Uncanny how good he is at that. What a totally unselfish star. No wonder OKC's D looked anemic. And any time a team has more players making more meaningful contributions like Miami did, there's your winner. Durant and Westbrook were not going to elevate their team by themselves.

I was rooting for OKC, but the better team definitely won this series. Congrats to the Heat and their fans.

Great day for the Heat, Good day for Stern, Lousy day for Basketball. For those of us who like real basketball with competitive teams built thru the draft and development of players who know their roles and come together as a team this day sucks.

Now the prescription for building a championship basketball team is this:

1) Suck and give away enough games to get in the lottery a couple of years.

2) Draft a dude with a great smile, lots of gang tats, who can get a shoe contract and knows how to dunk for sportscenter.

3) Be in a big market town that has lots of parties and rap videos, where Hollywood stars like to hang out, so you can sign free agents to play with your star.

4) Sign a coach who never calls plays, asks players to set screens and emphasizes one on one basketball.

5) Announce all of your moves on one hour sportscenter specials.

All the league needs to do now to cement its reputation is to merge with the WWE. :eyebrow:

But I will give the Heat this much, they were the best collection of players in an abysmal league this year. Notice I didn't say "team", the last team that won an NBA title was the SA Spurs.

I can't believe the word unselfish and Lebron James appeared in the same sentence. An unselfish star would have stayed in Cleveland and stuck it out to win. While Jordan made Pipen and his supporting cast better (the same can be said of Isaiah, Bird, and Magic), Lebron had to get other established stars to get the job done. Nothing impressive or unselfish about that.

With the exception of Chalmers there's not one player on that team whose game improved because they played with Lebron. Wade, Bosh, Battier, and Haslem were what they were before Lebron came around. He picked the best team at the playground, but he had the first picks, big deal.:scowl:

Well, their game may not have improved, but their stats certainly did...specifically because LBJ was playing unselfishly. Compare his assists in this series to those when he played in the Finals with Cleveland, and didn't have anyone else to give the ball to. Or didn't want to give the ball up...

No one in the NBA has gang tats.

As much as I didn't want it to happen, the Heat took this title, fair and square. Seems like they got it all figured out this series: Give Bron Bron the steering wheel, and everyone else just be ready when your number is called. I gotta say they played some beautiful basketball. Chris Bosh is the perfect guy to run those pick & rolls with Wade.

Bron Bron is an unselfish basketball player....I mean, that just can't be denied, no matter how hard you try. As a person, well, none of us know him personally, but that still is a different conversation entirely.

9 years in, and James got his first championship. 9 years!! Doesn't seem like he's been in the league that long...I'm getting old...

That's what everyone in my office is saying. The only people who seem to be happy are in Florida and Washington.

As much as I hate admitting it, the Heat were the better team and won fair and square, even with all the BS calls - take them away and the result would still have been the same. The Thunder are a great group of players (Durant is still the best player in the league, IMHO) but Miami just had more experience and stronger willpower. That being said, I can see OKC staying a powerhouse and possibly championship team for the next few seasons, assuming there's not another lockout :p

Oh brother. Has any NBA team been so successful with its draft picks and signings and lucky with injuries that they've NEVER been in the lottery? I'm sure you don't recall, but Miami ended up with the Wade pick because Mourning missed the whole prior season with his kidney ailment and Eddie Jones missed most of it due to injuries.

Ummm...are you talking about Wade, the career 49% shooter who's averaged 25 ppg (most of them not dunks, duh), one of the few NBA players with ZERO--yes, that's right, ZERO tattoos?:p

Yeah yeah, keep ignoring the great team ball Miami played to finish off this series as OKC reverted to one-on-one plays. I'd expect nothing less.

This again? Are you related to Dan Gilbert, Steve?:D He played in Cleveland for seven years--that's a long time, especially when 5 of them are under Mike Brown and management otherwise does a pretty lousy job of drafting.

Where was the Cavs' Pippen? Or Grant? I've long felt the whole "making guys around you better" thing was drastically overstated. A lot of it is simply that those strong supporting players, if your team is savvy enough to draft them, mature and get better over time. Have any of LeBron's old teammates made the All-Star team the past two years?

I'm going to stay away from most of this, but I do want to say that LBJ played a magnificent and magnanimous series focusing on team basketball and assists rather than one on one play. The Heat played good team defense in the last few games as well, especially in the second half of the last two, where the Thunder looked completely confused in half court offense. Kudos to the whole team. They had it all going at the right time.

I agree. I don't see how anyone can come up with selfish play from the Heat if they watched this series. They, as a team, outplayed the Thunder consistently. Sucks, but it's reality. Miami deserved the title, period.
