That helps me make sense of my thoughts about the differences in the fret geometry. I actually ended up making a strap out of two belts to get it as long as I wanted (and to be fashionable, if I'm being honest). In general, I like Thunderbirds slung almost at arms length. If I'm playing a 'bird, I'm playing rock music, and almost certainly not playing a challenging line. I wear other basses a good bit higher.
I think the strap anchor at the neck joint is a non-issue for how the bass is meant to be played. I'd have one for playing with a pick, slung low and doing more of a straight rock/punk thing.
